Women's Aid is part of a group of charities across the United Kingdom. Its aim is to end domestic violence against women and children. The charity works at both local and national levels to ensure women's safety from domestic violence and promotes policies and practices to prevent domestic violence against women from occurring.

There are four main Women's Aid Federations, one for each country. Aberystwyth Women's Aid (AWA) has its main offices in the centre of Aberystwyth. It also has a refuge with the Aberystwyth area and a number of outreach offices around Ceredigion. AWA uses ICT in all general office activities. It also uses ICT within the women's refuge and outreach offices. AWA welcomed the Circuit Rider support, not just to update their tiring system but to initiate new ideas and advance AWA's ICT activity.

There was a need for a central base of information storage, back up and communication. This meant a major network upgrade allowing all systems to have a central core without the need of a complicated domain server. A VPN (Virtual Private Network) and FTP service were set up to allow all computers to connect to a network drive for information sharing, no matter where the PC's/laptops were situated geographically. The refuge was having wireless security issues due to its location and a secure powerline network was introduced to allow secure communication throughout the building. New computers have been purchased and set-up with help from the local Circuit Rider and AWA now feel comfortable with its ICT technology and are confident to move forward with localised ICT support if and when it's needed.
