Cambrian Energetics is a small group of active villagers based in a community in the ‘Exact centre of Wales’. The aim of the group is to promote and develop community enhancement by enthusing the local community to realise the potential of their environment and its resources for a more sustainable future. Not only are the group benefiting their local environment but are piloting the project for similar groups globally.
Amongst many other ‘green’ projects the group is developing and planning:
• A mini hydro-electric scheme.
• Community larder/allotment area and poly-tunnel.
• The use of local wool for insulation and felt.
• The possible use of bracken / soiled wool to create compost.
• The use of field corners inaccessible to large machinery, for planting of fruit trees, hopefully giving fresh fruit encouraging insects and birds.
• Investigating the repair of the local ancient stone walls.
The group engaged with the local Circuit Rider at a point when they had purchased a new PC and were awaiting delivery. The Circuit Rider service assisted them with setting-up not just a new PC, but a totally new operating system, ‘Microsoft Vista’. The Circuit Rider was able to introduce and familiarize the group to the sometimes daunting and quite complex operating system. The group is now able to produce newsletters and communicate through a number of different media formats. The group, with support from the Circuit Rider project, have created and maintain a website focusing on the groups aims, objectives, achievements and ongoing projects.
