Saturday October 25th saw the launch of Pembroke Story Heritage Project at Pembroke Town Hall. The organisers of the Event, Project Officers Linda Asman and Nikki Anderson, were delighted with the enthusiastic response of Pembroke residents who attended in large numbers.
The Pembroke Story is a project that has been developed under the umbrella organisation of Pembroke21c. With support from the Circuit Riders team, the project has been able bring together, and use, modern technology alongside old local history, information and legacies of Pembroke. By creating a website which showcases the ‘virtual museum’ approach of the Pembroke Story and it’s history, the project team have been busy interviewing local people about their memories of events and lifestyles from many years ago. They have learned how to capture oral histories in digital format and upload them to the website, giving access to as many people as possible who can now hear about the history of the area in the words of local people themselves. The project staff have also had support to make use of new equipment purchased to provide them with a collection point for information. Local people are encouraged to send in their comments, articles and photographs for use on the website, making this a truly community asset. The project team have spent many hours researching and developing the content for the site, much of this work having been done in their own time.
