Information and communication technologies (ICT) have the potential to deliver significant social and environmental benefits to individuals, communities and organisations. SustainIT, an initiative of leading charity UK CEED, focuses on the relationship between and sustainable development and seeks to demonstrate how the technologies can be used to realise these benefits.

This site is probably more useful for project planners and developers rather than individuals. It looks at the strategic planning of ICT with environmental questions as the underpinning theme. There are examples and links to case studies under themed headings such as digital inclusion, teleworking and broadband availability. Has an annual award for e-wellbeing projects promoting social benefit through the use of ICT

Pros:  Useful and informative for research and information around sustainable ICT. Downloadable publications available on most aspects of ‘e’ engagement.

Cons: Quite strategic in context and maybe wouldn’t be what smaller groups were looking for

Our View: Very useful if the user is looking at environmental and sustainable issues around ICT usage.
