A web based system where

• charities can define a project suitable for a volunteer
• companies and individual volunteers can look for an opportunity, real or virtual

There are a number of case studies and example opportunities give an indication of skills that have been utilised.

Pros:  A good place to bring needs and skills together. Seems to be alive, many requests on the RSS feed.

Cons: Some of the case studies, especially the websites were rather sad, obviously not being used to their full potential. Last news is December 2006. No indication of level of activity – how many projects get volunteers?

Our View: The facility for virtual volunteers might be useful to rural areas. It might be worth submitting a project if you are a charity. An iT4C project definer will call you to discuss this in detail. This will give you the opportunity to talk to someone who has experience of volunteering and delivering IT help for other organisations. This is a great opportunity to have a chat to a person you can trust.
